Nicki Minaj and former wig designer settle $30 Million lawsuit out and I was reminded to get EVERYTHING in writing!
This form of post is certainly not typical of the type of content I post to the site, but will become a permanent fixture here. After scoping the report of this story on various entertainment platforms it peaked my attention because 1. the obvious, it is hair related 2. there is actual something we can all learn from this.
So, what’s the scoop? Rumour has it that Nicki Minaj and her former wig designer, Terrence Davidson, recently settled their $30 Million lawsuit out of court. Incase you were not in the know, Terrence Davidson (primary wig designer for the Jasmine Brand), originally filled a lawsuit against Nicki Minaj & Pink Personality LLC back in 2014. The lawsuit was brought on the grounds that Nicki Minaj & Pink Personality LLC pinched Davidson’s wig designs and create her own line of wigs for resale. Can I interject here and say that I did not even know Nicki Minaj had a wig line, did you?
Davidson claimed that he had a verbal agreement with Nicki Minaj & Pink Personality LLC that they would create a wig line in partnership. The initial case was dismissed as there was not sufficient evidence of said agreement. A month later Davidson appealed on the grounds that he had explicitly communicated that the wig designs where for Minaj’s person use ONLY. Nicki Minaj & Pink Personality LLC creation of a wig line infringed on this agreement of services. The appeal court accepted Davidson’s argument and was reason enough to sue for compensation.
The case had been lingering and as of 1st April 2016 , the case was settled out of court. The terms of said settlement reportedly are to remain undisclosed, so we will not know exactly what the settlement was. Interesting as this story may be (or not), I wanted to present the Tribe with something they could actually learn here to prevent being in this position.
