If you are looking for a colour fairly close to your natural shade, the best way to locate a great colour match is to compare it with the lower sections of your locks. If the roots are the worst place for a comparison, then the ends are the best.

Do hair extensions have to match exactly?

The hair extension color does not have to be an exact match to the client’s hair color. Look for the same depth of color not the exact tone. Once the extensions are in they will “take over” the whole head of hair and will look great.

Is it better to get darker or lighter hair extensions?

So aim for a colour most similar to your own. Or when in doubt, go a shade lighter; so you can create lowlights, tone it or go a colour darker to better match your hair.

Do you dye your hair before or after extensions?

This may seem obvious, but in order to get the truest match, we recommend coloring your hair and waiting three to five washes before choosing your extensions – this way, your color will have regulated. The first day you color your hair, it’s often a touch darker or more saturated than how your hair will typically look.

Are all hair extension Colour numbers the same?

Each color has a number that matches other standardized colors used in dye, wigs, tints, and sometimes hair extensions. COLORS are matched to numbers in an attempt to create an industry standard and make your job as a stylist easier.

Can tape in extensions be colored?

Tapes. If you have tape hair extensions and you want to know “can you dye hair extensions”, the answer is yes! You’ll need to avoid the tape area though – the dye could damage the attachment. And, because of this you’ll also need to think about how many shades darker you go.
