Well Tribe, where do I even begin on this one? I held the palm of my hand over my left eye whilst reading this very tragic story. Yes, I really covered one of my eyes and imagine how different life would be without depth perception. Needless to say, I felt very blessed to have all my senses in tacked and in working order. Although I felt immense sympathy for Erica Diaz who lost her left eye after a piece of glitter sliced her cornea (then got infected), I couldn’t help but drift away and start to ponder. ‘hmmm…there is something significant self-proclaimed makeup ‘gurus’ can learn from this…STOP with the DIY makeup hacks’.
Yes, ok you got me… Diaz’s story isn’t quit as you may expect as she wasn’t using craft gliter as makeup. Erica Diaz was clearing up craft glitter after working on a school project with her daughter, when a piece of glitter flew into her eye. She says “There was a chance that [a] f*cking piece of glitter in my eye could actually kill me,” she told Imgur users. “I beg you, PLEASE wear eye protection when dealing with glitter.” The very idea of online content creators recommending craft glitter, as a replacement for cosmetic grade glitter is not foreign. Now, if this can happen to Diaz in this freak scenario, why are we encouraging women to put craft glitter on their face, let alone eyes?
