MATTEL RELEASE LIMITED EDITION DOLL INSPIRED BY ZENDAYA COLEMAN FAUX LOC LOOK
Who can forget earlier this year when teen disney actress/musician Zendaya, wore an unexpected set of faux locs to the Oscars. Although her look was well received and praised on the red carpet, a lot of controversy surrounded the young celebrity post Oscars. As you may recall, E! reporter Giuilana Rancic, whilst making reference to Coleman’s hairstyle, she said she looks like she “smells like patchouli oils….and weed”. Fast forward a few months and inspired by Zendaya’s look, Mattel release a limited edition Zendaya Oscar doll, complete with faux locs.
Mattel and Zendaya joined forces to collaborate on producing the Oscar doll. The doll which “commemorates that particular red carpet look where she had a moment of confidence that was so positively received,” Michelle Chidoni said, a spokesperson for Mattel. The doll was released as part of Mattel’s “Raise Your Voices Initiative”
Although there has been a little criticism of the doll by ladies who are naturally loc’ed, the doll in large was celebrated. Before you all rush out to try and find this doll on the shelves of your local toy stores, only one was made. Mattel have acknowledged the requests for this doll to be put into production for consumers. However, a spokesperson noted that even if Mattel made the decision to mass produce the doll, fans would have to wait at east 18 months to see it in stores. So for the time being your homes will remain Zendaya doll-less.
